Mount Airy City Council is considering a proposal to ease cell tower placement regulations within the city. With the growing demand for better mobile service by many residents comes the need to construct cell towers in order to allow for such improvement. According to mtairynews.com, “Under the change, a cell tower could be put near a home at a distance no closer than the height of the tower, plus 50 feet. Developments such as smartphones and 3G and 4G systems have increased demands on network resources, which explains the move to reduce the allowable distance between towers and homes.”
