Georgia has passed a new law, which provides that local governments must have a standard system when evaluating cell tower applications. The local governments must make a formal decision within 150 days of application receipt. According to Georgia Rep. Don Parson via www.govtech.com, โ€œThereโ€™s always been a problem with some local governments over cell tower siting issues. While some cities and counties processed siting permits โ€˜pretty quickโ€™, some were slow and others used the process to raise money. The longer a city held up a permit, the more money it made the consultants used by cities and counties on the issue.โ€

The legislation designed to make the cell tower application process relatively smoother and faster will bring about an increase in cell tower placement. If you are approached by a telecom or tower company proposing to build a tower on your property, contact us with any questions prior to signing any agreement with them. Vertical Consultants has worked with all types of landowners who are being paid below-market value for the use of their property. The primary reason for this is the lack of information and representation provided for these entities. Ample information and representation from a true landowner advocate are key factors these industries need in order to optimize the use of their properties by the telecom and tower companies.
