Georgia has passed a new law, which provides that local governments must have a standard system when evaluating cell tower applications. The local governments must make a formal decision within 150 days of application receipt. According to Georgia Rep. Don Parson via www.govtech.com, “There’s always been a problem with some local governments over cell tower siting issues. While some cities and counties processed siting permits ‘pretty quick’, some were slow and others used the process to raise money. The longer a city held up a permit, the more money it made the consultants used by cities and counties on the issue.”

The legislation designed to make the cell tower application process relatively smoother and faster will bring about an increase in cell tower placement. If you are approached by a telecom or tower company proposing to build a tower on your property, contact us with any questions prior to signing any agreement with them. Vertical Consultants has worked with all types of landowners who are being paid below-market value for the use of their property. The primary reason for this is the lack of information and representation provided for these entities. Ample information and representation from a true landowner advocate are key factors these industries need in order to optimize the use of their properties by the telecom and tower companies.
