After 22 years, the FCC is finally considering lifting the ban on cell phone usage during flight. The Telecommunications Industry Association is a huge proponent of the plan, as it translates to more profit for them. According to FCC Chairman, “Modern technologies can deliver mobile services in the air safely and reliably, and the time is right to review our outdated and restrictive rules. I look forward to working closely with my colleagues, the FAA and the airline industry on this review of new mobile opportunities for consumers.”
If the FCC approves this change, the increase in usage, as a result, will bring about continued reliance upon infrastructure to support the traffic, which means more cell towers. The surge in cell towers has become a norm in today’s society, and is considered much more acceptable than it was 15 years ago. This is a sign of the times and an indicator of the growing need for more cell towers so that the population can stay connected and “plugged in”. Vertical Consultants is an expert in the telecom leasing field and an advocate for landowners’ rights. Vertical Consultants works with all types of property owners, including municipalities, who are approached for cell tower placement or who have telecom existing leases in place.
