Many residents in Green County, Virginia are upset about a proposed cell tower to potentially be constructed opposite a church. More precisely, the planned monopole cell tower would be positioned directly across from the church’s planned “peace garden”, which has many neighbors concerned. However, the tower is much needed to improve wireless coverage for residents in the area, and the tower company is willing to take the steps to have the tower blend in with the surroundings. According to Greene County Record, “Velocital is proposing a monopole tower that would be just under the 200-foot federal limit that would require blinking lights. Svoboda’s staff recommended in November that the tower be approved, saying it meets county requirements. He said on Monday that position has not changed. One concession that Velocital has made since November is that it will paint the tower brown in an attempt to blend in with the hillside.”
If the cell tower proposal receives final approval, it is important that the property owner is properly informed and represented prior to signing any agreement. He/ she must be sure to find out the true value for the use of their land, including any revenue sharing produced from co-locator income.
